Background

This project was an initiative within the broader wave of healthcare digitalization, aimed at supporting radiology department heads in smart department management. However, at the beginning, there was no clear or shared definition of what 'smart management' entailed. Over the course of six months, I collaborated with fellow designers and project stakeholders to explore how digital solutions could enhance operational efficiency in radiology department management.

Main Challenges

  1. There were significant time discrepancies across different stages of radiology examinations, so simply comparing timestamps between each checkpoint made it difficult to identify the true bottlenecks. To address this, equipment data was used to reflect the department's operational performance.

  2. Hospital workflows rely heavily on offline coordination, so we need to find a medium that bridges physical operations with digital management. A real-time data dashboard displayed on a large screen was introduced.

Solution

The final deliverables included a large screen dashboard for equipment data management, along with other management modules delivered in phased releases.

Key takeaways

  1. Rapid prototyping in the early stages of the project helped the team better understand user needs.

  2. When possible, on-site design validation also proved valuable in informing and accelerating subsequent design iterations.
